Mixing my Vintage RetroBabs world with my Art world

I thought you might be interested on how I try to mix my RetroBabs Vintage & ReMix shop on Etsy with the ART world where I make my personal art.
I recently was involved in an art show with the Village Artists, an art co-op in Homewood, IL.  I brought a vintage suitcase and travel train case and displayed my art work inside these vintage items.  I received many comments on the display, the quirky, kitschy arrangement of fine art against old retro products. I think the juxtaposition is what catches people off guard. I passed out cards for both of my life's ventures and I hope the melding of them brings new customers to my life.   Networking as such has been a very powerful tool for me.

I hope you have a great Holiday and take care. My next post will show you some of my latest art work!

I would like to take this moment to say thank you to Ira Mency of RetroChalet shop on Etsy.  She has been a great help to me and I want her to know I appreciate it.  Take a moment to look at my blog list. You will find her there.  She specializes in Melmac and plastic dishware.
I found my pattern which is Temporama and I had no idea it came in Plastic/Texasware/Melmac!!  You learn something new everyday.

Hello fellow Bloggers,
Well the art show for the Village Artists went off pretty well. Todays' snow dampened the turn out a bit.  Last night the village of Homewood had there Holiday Festival and tree lighting ceremony.  We had lots of foot traffic going by and a few customers welcomed us to the block.
We have a great location on Ridge Road and we face that busy street with enthusiasm.  We look forward to our Grand Opening when we get ourselves settled in.

I would like to send a shout out to a good friend Mandy Kalins who is hosting a new blog and it is a nice one.  Check her out at:

FYI here is a piece I sold at the show! Uh Oh too bad you missed it.

Hello family and friends,
I just thought you would want to see what the babies look like now.

Penny>>>>

MILES>>>

Miles is 4 months and Penny is 6 months old now.

The Event at the Oak Forest Library was cancelled due to low ticket sales.  My work was displayed there for 2 months.  Nice group of people there.  Good luck to Mary the Director of the Library who is moving on to New Mexico.

Here are some Necklaces I made for the Etsy shop.  I started it on Aug 17, 2010 and I sell vintage items and ReMix.  These I consider remix because they started life as a wind chime but I didn't like it and decided to make them necklaces.   The shop is going well, I have a Facebook page also here is the link to the shop.  I am putting these on my art blog because I made these ceramic leaves , hand built slab and fired these the earth tones.  They were so pretty I thought someone would want a Bohemian type necklace.  These are for the girl who wants something like no one else has!! Sincerely, Babs

Hello Everyone,
I am a little behind on the posting. Our daughter, Becky, got married on July 17th to Camm Rowland.  The wedding was held in my sister Sue's garden and it was lovely.
I am displaying 24 works of art at the Acorn Public Library on Central Ave. in Oak Forest.  My work will be hanging there for the month of August and perhaps longer.  The library is trying to raise funds to remodel their facilities without raising property taxes.  They are having a fund raising event on October 15th, 2010.  Go to their website for more info.
I hope all of you are well and can visit the library in the near future.

I have not written for a while.  Lots of news.  Another Grand baby!!  Miles Henry was born on June 15th and he is perfect.  No problems, healthy, big boy-8lbs 14oz WOOOO HOOO.
He has lots of hair and is a big as his cousin Penny!!!!
Art projects have been taking a backseat for the time being.  I have done some sewing projects and made a few ceramic leaves for a sculpture.  I will post a picture of Miles and a photo of our house because I have a big garden.  The garden takes time to weed but it is worth every minute of my time.  It is my Zen when I garden, time stands still.  How do you like my beautiful bird house my husband made for me as a gift.  LIFE IS GOOD AND WE ARE BLESSED.

This is the latest painting I sold at the Village Artist members show.  I also went on a field trip to Kenosha Wisc. to see the Transparent Watercolor society show.  Very nice, good selection and well hung show.  The public museum is a nice venue.

At the art group I am a member of, The Village artists, we had a plate painting day on March 8th.  This is a plate I made for my daughter for her birthday.  About eight of us had a wonderful time painting, glazing and designing the art work. I also had a fun time with my son, Jeff, in Chinatown.  He is finally out of the Navy after 6 and 1/2 years!!!

I believe cooking is an art and I am entering a contest tomorrow for St. Patrick's Day.  I am entering my Grandmother Irish Soda bread. Wish me luck, especially since I don't cook very much and my family think this fact is very comical.  I CAN cook I just don't LIKE to cook!!  I don't think I can mess up this recipe.   Happy St Patty's Day

Here is a birthday present for Camm my future son-in-law.  It is a rice bowl of my own design. Holes for chopsticks because I hear he can't eat Chinese food unless he has chopsticks.  Enjoy it Camm!
I also have a photo of a vessel with a lid, bread warmers that I made for x mas gifts and some of my mugs and bowls.
Here is my newest sculpture.  I call it "The Laugh", it was supposed to have a hand over the face but the clay became to hard to add it later.  I have been helping my mother who has been having back issues and the clay got away from me.  This is not fired or glazed yet and I will make another sculpture of my original design.

I have been painting for charity.

My husband and I have been painting for a charity, Restore Decor  .   We paint furniture to be resold in the two shops that Restore Decor o...
